Rizelle Mata,OFW from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Rizelle Mata is presently working abroad as a domestic helper. Rizelle was born in Botolan and grew up in San Antonio, Zambales. She graduated at SMES and later at LTI San Antonio. She did not attend college, but she was hired by the FRA branch in San Miguel, Zambales, and worked as a food server/cook. She worked there for four years before she went abroad.

She decided to work in another country to have a better life in terms of financial status. Working abroad offers better chances of earning good money than working back at home. For her, working abroad has its perks, but being away from your loved ones is hard to deal with, especially at first.

What makes you decide to work abroad?

Unang una, gusto ko mas malaking kita.. Nakataon na may mas magandang offer dito sa abroad.

How did you apply abroad? Will you please tell us the procedure, so those who are planning to become OFWs can have an idea how?

Nothing

Yes I do..as I’ve said..I’m  processing on something to do for a living so even if i decided one day not to come back here.I’m going to have a source for everything i need and my family needs as well..like the basic needs..

How do you handle being homesick (homesickness)?

Homesickness..!? I just make myself busy more often than the usual..Even if am alone in the room..i prefer watching funny clips on YouTube to forget loneliness for a while.

Do you think the popular social media platforms can help fight boredom? Why?

For me absolutely yes…aside from watching funny clips and current events happening in the Philippines to keep us posted..it also keeps us in touch to our family back there..w/c is the most important for me.

What are the things you regret not doing because of your time spent working abroad?

Well..I can’t say the word regret coz it’s my choice obviously..,but am thinking to have a family of my own at this moment of my life now..but i still can’t..so there..

Most people don’t realize what it’s actually like to be an OFW. They think that OFWs just travel and have fun abroad. Can you share your real situation as an OFW so people understand what you really do?Can you give tips or advice for people who are planning to go abroad?
