Maria Cristina R. Villanueva, OFW from Muscat Oman

Maria Cristina R. Villanueva is an OFW working in Muscat, Oman, as a personal caregiver. She is 31 years old and she’s originally from Wawa, Abucay, Bataan. She’s a college undergraduate but she decided to work abroad to give a better life for her family, particularly her kids.

What makes you decide to work abroad?

TO GIVE A BETTER LIFE AND FUTURE FOR MY FAMILY ESPECIALLY TO OUR CHILDREN.

How did you apply abroad?

Will you please tell us the procedure, so those who are planning to become OFWs can have an idea how?

CHECK FIRST TO THE POEA IF THE AGENCY IS UNDER THE POEA AND HAVE LICENSE.

What is the hardest part of being an OFW?

SACRIFICE  being away from a family is the most difficult and and the most painful experience ever have.

What are the things you have established/bought since you became an OFW?

OFW COME HOME EITHER EMPTY HANDED OR RICH. I HAVE THEIR DAILY HABITS TO THEIR LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE,  IT’S A QUITE EASY TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE.

Do you have a bad experience as an OFW either abroad or in the Philippines?

YES OF COURSE, THEY HAVE OWN STORIES AND EXPERIENCE WHEN GOOD AND BAD.

Do you have any plans in mind so that you don’t have to work abroad for the rest of your life?

YES

How do you handle being homesick (homesickness)? 

I KEEP FAMILIAR THINGS FROM HOME BECAUSE CAN HELP ME TO EASE MY PAIN AND MY FEELINGS HOMESICKS.

Do you think the popular social media platforms can help fight boredom?

YES.. Why? . Identity fraudster can use the most basic information about their victims if ever that happen,such as name, address, contact number for whole range.  (social networking can be fun and rewarding , allowing  you to stay in touch with all of your friend, but should think very carefully about the information you are).

What are the things you regret not doing because of your time spent working abroad?

HOW TO BE STRONG AND FIGHTER WHEN THE (GOODS AND BADS) COME TO YOU.

Most people don’t realize what it’s actually like to be an OFW. They think that OFWs just travel and have fun abroad. Can you share your real situation as an OFW so people understand what you really do? 

TO BE HONEST VERY DIFFICULT BUT HAPPY WHEN YOU GOT YOUR SALARY. Can you give tips or advice for people who are planning to go abroad? Answer. BEFORE YOU GO WORK ABROAD  MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE PATIENT,PROWESS, ADVENTUROUS, HARD FACE AND YOU KNOW HOW TO HANDLE ALL THE SITUATION YOU FACES. BE SMART AND BRAVE.
